THEA is a non-profit that works to safeguard public health & water resources by addressing environmental contamination. We provided outreach to advocate for the clean-up of the San Jacinto Waste PIts, where highly toxic paper mill waste containing dioxin and other harmful chemicals were trapped under the San Jacinto River. Through social media, strategy, & outreach, we helped get nearly 50,000 signatures demanding that the EPA declare it a SuperFund site. We received positive press in the New York Times, SF Chronicle, Texas Tribune, Houston Chronicle, & interviews with national news. The companies responsible agreed to a $115 million plan to remove the cancer-causing material in 2017.

By raising awareness of the health risks posed by environmental factors and advocating for preventive measures, we’re helping to create safer, healthier communities.
